Neuropalliative care is an emerging subspecialty within palliative care and neurology. Patients with complex movement disorders faced with high symptom burden, functional decline, and increased burden on care partners benefit from the multidisciplinary approach that focuses on prevention and management of physical, psychosocial and spiritual suffering alongside traditional treatment plans. Unfamiliarity with the role of neuropalliative care and its benefits in supporting advanced therapeutic usage and impact on QOL reduces utilization and potential benefits. Upon completion of this session, learners will understand the role of neuropalliative care in movement disorders for improving QOL, the benefits and barriers to services, and how to initiate neuropalliative care as part of the comprehensive treatment plan.
