Distinguishing atypical Parkinsonisms from idopathic Parkinson disease can provide a significant challenge to providers making a clinical diagnosis due to overlapping symptoms. Appropriate diagnosis is critical as it determines treatment and management. Inappropriate treatment provides limited benefits creating complex care needs and increased patient burden. In this session learners will be able to distinguish the clinical and pathological features of each atypical parkinsonian syndrome from idiopathic PD, including PSP, MSA, CBD, and DLB, identify key features that may indicate red flags for atypical parkinsonism, and assess the recent advances in diagnostic and treatments available.
